Villa Banana isn't just a collection  it's a state of mind. A place you half-remember from a holiday you never quite want to leave. And this season, we invited someone who lives there permanently to help us bring it to life.

Meet Lee Wilson

Lee Wilson is an artist whose work exists somewhere between nostalgia and daydream. His paintings are warm, unhurried, and quietly humorous  the kind of images that feel like a postcard from somewhere you've always wanted to go. When we first encountered his work, we knew immediately: this was the world of Villa Banana.

Lee has long been a muse for State of Georgia  someone whose creative sensibility mirrors our own obsession with the beauty of the everyday, the romance of slow travel, and the particular magic of a long afternoon with nowhere to be.

The Inspiration

Villa Banana is rooted in escape. Not the frantic kind, but the slow, sun-soaked variety — where time stretches out, colours bleed at the edges, and everything feels just slightly dreamlike. Think peeling paint on a terracotta wall. A glass of something cold. The sound of cicadas. A hammock. A dog asleep in the shade.

Lee's paintings capture exactly this feeling. Each original work began as a personal exploration of that dreamlike holiday state — humorous, tender, and deeply human. It was this quality that drew us in: the sense that his art doesn't just depict a place, it transports you there.

From Canvas to Cloth

Transforming hand-painted artwork into wearable design is a process that requires both reverence and reinvention. We worked closely with Lee to ensure that the integrity of each original painting was preserved — the brushstroke quality, the colour palette, the feeling — while translating it into something that could live on the body.

Each piece in the Villa Banana collection began as an original painting by Lee. From there, our design team worked to scale, place, and adapt the artwork across 12 pieces — considering how a motif might wrap around a sleeve, how a colour might shift in different fabrics, how a composition might move with the wearer. The result is a collection that feels genuinely handmade, even at scale.
